Where did the name Carolina Reaper come from? - Reaper Robs

ReaThe Carolina Reaper is in the Guinness World Records book as the hottest pepper on earth. It clocks in at an amazing 1.6 to 2.2 million Scoville Heat Units (SHUs) which is about 640 – 880 times hotter than a jalapeño.

Ed Currie is the guy who invented this pepper, a cross between a “really nastily hot” La Soufriere pepper from the Caribbean island of St. Vincent and a Naga Viper pepper from India.

So how did it get it's name the ‘Carolina Reaper’? The ‘Carolina’ comes from the state in which Ed Currie resides and developed the pepper: South Carolina. And it is named Reaper due to the shape of its tail which resembles a scythe most famously carried by the Grim Reaper.

It has been described as having a fruity taste, with the initial bite being sweet and then immediately turning to "molten lava".

Our hottest and most intense hot sauce is the Reaper Hot Sauce, made from... you guessed it, the infamous Carolina Reaper pepper and packs a fiery punch of flavors when blended with habanero peppers, fresh onion, fresh garlic, and agave for sweetness. Don't be intimidated but we do caution you, as we said above these peppers are hot Hot HOT and not for the faint of heart... this is a hot and intense sauce with the Carolina Reaper pepper reaching a potential 1,641,183 SHU on the Scoville scale.           "I'm really impressed with their flavor profiles, they're all different. And this is Reaper Robs Colorado Hot Sauce, and I'm giving it to this one, this the "Reaper Sauce" not super, super hot for a reaper sauce but it's just a fantastic blend of onions and garlic and reaper peppers and habanero peppers a little bit of agave syrup to give it a little sweetness. Super super delicious! Just amazing."
